An Ode Unto Spacetime Poem by Christopher Ryan

An Ode Unto Spacetime

Rating: 4.5

Oh space-time, my true love,
I wish you the best:
You must be the rue of
An object at rest.
Your curves are so hilly
They make the Earth roll.
(Forces? No, silly!
Acceleration’s the goal.)
The Earth, in its splendor,
Shall all pass away,
But like a good blender
You’ll be here to stay.

So though my mind wearies
Its question remains,
And I have some theories
To pose to your branes:
To start with, if light under
Gravity bends,
Would planets, I wonder,
Then act as a lens?
For if this holds verity,
As Einstein does say,
Then just for my clarity
I’ve something to say.

My horoscope thinks
That in life I’ll go far,
But what if I’m jinxed
By a light-bending star?
How can I be certain?
It grinds on my nerves!
When my heart is hurtin’,
Should I blame your curves?
When planets align,
Do I know that it’s right?
Is it still a line
If it bends with the light?

You ruin predictions!
You say they’re a hoax!
I admit they’re just fictions –
I read them for jokes –
But it’s like reading Coptic
To think of your forms,
With light-bending optics
And holes made by worms;
So I’ve a petition
To send back your way:
Have a heart of contrition
And please go away!
