An Old Coat Time Had Left Behind Poem by Jeff Nesvig

An Old Coat Time Had Left Behind

Hand me downs and shinny eyes peer across the room
Holding an old coat that time has left behind
A beautiful old coat her grandmother left for her
To protect her from the winters cold and snow.

As she wrapped the coat around her she could feel grandmas love
She could smell her perfume
She could feel the snow falling all around her
She could feel the warmth of grandmas heart inside her hand me down coat
That time had left behind.

She slipped her hand into grandmas coat pocket as the winter snow began to fall
She found a picture of a time from long ago of grandma holding hands
With a man she had always known
A man from long ago and only yesterday she told him that she loves him as she said good-by
And watched as he cried and starred into the sky whispering honey she look so much like you.

As she looked at the picture again she could see that grandma was wearing the coat
That time had left behind
The coat that grandpa bought her because he always said it matched her pretty brown eyes.

And as she turned around she could see grandpa cry
Saying thru the tears he cried honey she looks just like you.

She put her arms around him and she tried not to cry
And said to grandpa
Grandmas love is still right here in this beautiful old coat time has left behind
She told me that she loves you
And try not to cry.

Hand me downs and shinny eyes peer across the room
Holding an old coat that time has left behind
A beautiful old coat her grandmother left for her
To protect her from the winters cold and snow.
