And So Good-Bye Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

And So Good-Bye

Rating: 5.0

They told me you turned your head toward the sun,
Walking slowly down the cobbled stone curved path.
They said your shoulders were straight,
Your head held in your proud fashion, but not before
They saw your tears...
I wish I had been there to cup my hand in yours,
Just once more,
My feet rushing, taking two paces to your one.
I would have wiped your tears, leaving salt traces
On your beautiful face...
I wish I had been there so you would have known
You were not alone and would never be again...
But I was locked away in some distant place,
Where I thought you'd be,
When you walked away from me, before,
And I was left to wander, without you,
In a place where only the lonely dwell.
