Angels Themselves Must Be Confused By War

Angels Themselves Must Be Confused By War

Angels themselves must be confused by war
what with both sides praying for help and protection
Angels must be fighting among themselves
as to which side is right and which is wrong.
For in war,
someone is always getting hurt
someone is always dying
someone is always crying so deep
Yet, everyone is praying.

Angels themselves must be wondering when there is a war
who can they help?
who can they clarify?
what mercy do they cast to the merciless?
For in war, no modest screams can be heard
no stainless pain can be felt
in the field of spirits rising like a silver smoke.

I pray to these angels to
shed their compassion to the rising smoke
of souls who bore the watermark of a meaningless war.
Nothing in war escapes destruction,
not even the illusion of triumph!
For when we reach the heavenly abode,
we are all the same again,
in name, in game, and in fame.
