At the top of the page on my VDU, the date and day; 2132…
The history teacher gazed at us and slowly smiled...
“Today we are going way back in time”. (It was the early part of 2009) . Back when folk could still sit and walk in the naked light of the sun, even though ozone depletion had already begun. “It was a strange period”, the teacher began, “some say it was one of the darkest for man… An age of lawlessness with small correction and of morality and discipline? – little conception For all their technology and scientific advances they were a people who lived for taking chances, for example they used tobacco in social recreation blinded by addiction, they ignored its reputation and alcohol abuse amongst the young was never greater, the anthem of the reprobate was live now, pay later immature souls ablaze with desire while drugs set the adolescent heart on fire and impressionable half-wits who would live by the knife would offer only pain in exchange for a life…
“They were animals, Sir”, one lad commented, (with unrestrained glee): The teacher said nothing… but noticeably, did not disagree.
