The brilliant white swan gracefully glides
Alongside a river bank resplendid in green.
Sunlight reflects from the mirror-smooth water.
The song-birds relay their merry melodies
Under an endearing sky of extreme blueness,
Polka-dotted with small fluffy-white-grey clouds.
The blackbird dances merrily from branch to branch
Of the riverside rowan wearing its multi-coloured coat -
Blood-red berries, varied green leaves and silver-grey bark.
The age -cracked bark and mossy-green lichen
Add further texture and beauty to humble mountain ash.
The wildflowers and purple cocksfoot grass seed add colour
And kaleidoscopic beauty to the low-lying river bank.
The gentle humming of the honey bees and hornets
And the gentle sounds of softly flowing river water
Adds a backing track to the song-birds' melody.
Such natural beauty and splendour out-does the man-made
Beauty of the Mona Lisa smile or any stately home
Or git-edged splendour of cathedral or Royal Palace.
Why do so few take the time to see and appreciate?
