Are We Alone? Poem by Jaime Montanez Salcedo

Are We Alone?

How restless and curious we have grown,
Since the ability of thought was our own,
For thoughtful dream in time became desire,
And thriving in challenge put our mind in fire.
Are we alone in the entire universe?
Are we on one's own destined to immerse
In a choice of life up a glorious aim,
Bringing the best of us, eager to proclaim
In time, that our hopes were never in vain,
For shall find, most meritorious gain?
At first, doubtless we thought the earth was flat,
With gruesome bounds the monster's habitat,
Earth the center of limited heavens,
Where without gods' meddling, nothing happens.
So by drawn examples, I would dare to say,
There is more than pretentiousness to bray,
That midst billions of star we are alone,
It is to bind the thought that is our own.
