Ashes Plays Table Tennis Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

Ashes sits up with her fully stretched front legs
She watches us playing ping pong.
My wife is at the other end,
I am at this end of a tennis table.
We didn't play ping pong since we adopted Ashes.
The balls bounce back and forth making b-o-o-ng b-o-o-ng noises.
Ashes is curious about this new thing so she sits to watch.
Her eyes dart quickly to follow the trails of the balls.
To catch up with speeds of balls, she moves her head along.
The balls bounce back and forth hundreds of times.
She gets more interested so she jumps up on the tennis table
Where she has closer look at the balls.
She raises her paws to catch passing balls over her head.
She moves her paws as fast as the balls.
Suddenly the ball touches her paws.
She gets more excited so she participates more.
Finally she succeeds in catching the ball with her paws.
She enjoys the play so she changes her positions.
The faster the balls bounce the faster she moves her paws
She alternates between one paw and two paw catches.
Having played enough, she rests and watches passing balls.

Ashes ngồi xổm nhìn bàn
Đầu bàn vợ đứng, cuối bàn là tôi.
Bàn này để đánh ping pông
Từ nuôi Ashes bây giờ mới chơi.
Banh đi banh lại boong boong
Ashes thấy lạ, nó ngồi nhìn banh.
Nhìn banh cặp mắt đưa nhanh
Mắt nhìn không kịp nó xoay cả đầu.
Banh đi banh lại trăm lần
Thế là nó thích, nhẩy ngay lên bàn.
Nó ngồi chăm chú nhìn banh
Nó giơ tay bắt, trái banh ngang đầu.
Banh nhanh nó cũng nhanh tay
Mấy lần banh tới đụng ngay tay mèo.
Mèo vui tay cố vươn theo
Cuối cùng bắt được, tay mèo ôm banh.
Mèo vui mèo đổi thế nằm
Boong boong banh nhẩy, tay càng quơ nhanh
Một tay rồi lại hai tay
Mèo chơi đã đủ, mèo nằm nhìn banh.
