Fair Emily, wake up dear,
Quench a traveler’s thirst,
So that I may breathe your breath,
I came all the way to Amherst,
They say you are dead,
But still thou recite for me,
Still you come with a rose,
All dressed in white for me,
Your attire of stark white,
With mine black as staple,
How! O How, we shall appear,
Like lovers walking down the aisle,
Let my poetry kiss yours,
Come let us sing a song,
I wish to travel this land,
And I want you along,
I see you lay in peace,
And fools have placed a stone,
Open your eyes, I bring love,
Don’t act as if you are gone,
Enough of play, I say,
Now wake up to my delight,
Or I dare threaten you,
I too would lay beside.
