You held my hand
As though, we were lovers
And stare into my eyes
To tell me you were here for me
Still, I wasn't confident about going
I felt the frustration of waiting
And I was about to leave
The hell with it, I thought
But you held my hand tighter
When they called my name, I hesitated
Because being a small town girl
Reading in front of a crowd from the city
It was scary and I shook like a leaf
Especially, where there's better poets
And everyone would laugh at my small town poetry
But you guided me to the microphone
As I stood there staring at the people
I took a big breath
Wow Lee that's an amazing experience. I would also feel the same level of anxiety in such a situation. I am sure you faced your fears head on and pulled it off well. Bravo!
I can relate to your experience.Every first performance on stage before an audience may make us nervous. But kudos to friends like yours who encourage us in such situations to tide over the fear.
Don't put down your 'small-town poetry'. You have so much to offer.
You've so brilliantly captured the essence of stage fright! And of TRUE FRIENDSHIP! And a few other things! Great work, LeeAnn! And the timing is perfect for my poetry reading tomorrow!
