Autumn Poem by Jonathan Bellmann

Autumn

Usher not in warmth, the days forthcoming
Nor offer in repose the sounds of distant drumming.

Leave to time its aging rhyme as it takes each fading breath;
Scarlet on gold of vibrancy fleeting defying the touch of death.

As cherished garments resplendent be the flowers and the trees
Sojourn the journey lay the leaves drawn to the earth like these.

Across the land far and wide the hours waft, then march on by
As dusk descends it breathes its last on limbs nonetheless wry.

Timely honored tales garner richly every scent of spice and leaf
Of woodland char, of pumpkin and apple's alluring charm, most brief.
