Autumn Hues Poem by Misilla de la Llana

Autumn Hues

‘Twas a brisk misty morn,
Luxuriant foliage tinged auburn.
Yet tranquil and subdue,
Spider’s orb glisten with dawn’s dew.
Such blustery autumn breeze,
Thus swaying emerald trees.
Scarlet leaves of maple,
Ripened crimson apples.
Leaves golden, copper and brown,
Jubilantly twirl falling down.
Upon the arbor sits, a finch with yellow chest,
Gathering downs of thistle, to lay about her nest.
Amidst the thicket, fawns gleefully play,
Whilst whimsical cattails dance with gay.
A red squirrel harvest fruit and acorn,
Below, sharp woody branches of the hawthorn.
Cottontails graze upon meadows lush,
Whence they burrow near shrubbery brush.
As the black bear forages before he hibernates.
Afore frozen vapor precipitates.
Hence a day, gray and melancholy skies,
Though beyond mountainous hills, euphoria lies.
Cascading valleys, where timber stand tall,
O such wondrous ephemeral hues of fall!
