Inserting finger tips into
socket holes of electrical circuits
is definitely traumatic.
Stay away from it,
there is no
shock and kick.
Likewise things in the world outside
don't touch us
on their own,
rain, air, light, soil are exception,
Only our contact with them
creates either distress
or jubilation.
A drunkard feels happy
with a bottle of Johnny Walker.
but the same drink fails
to lure a teetotaler.
The inert insentient bottle
with its content does not attract.
What tempts us is our own
wrong and imprudent mindset.
Our mental projections
are transient and variable,
right contact consoles us
in pain,
wrong contact stings us
even in our pleasure,
keeps us away from satisfaction.
A tortoise withdraws all its
sense contacts into its
carapace covering and
uses prudently only when the need
and right time arrive.
We must avert unnecessary contacts,
control our mental climate and senses
for happy and meaningful life.
Liked the last three lines. A great poem to ponder about..
A most pertinent issue expressed with marvellous poetic talent… 5 *
Wonderful insight and wisdom are contained in this beautiful poem. As always, you presented it with brilliant and well thought out lines.
Very true.....We have the liberty to make our choices. Profound poem.5****

Love the whole poem. Especially, the stanza about the tortoise and your last stanza. Great job, Poet Dash!
