Baby Why Poem by Ronald Strickland

Baby Why

Baby why did your dog bite me, I didn't know it wouldn't share its favorite tree.

When it would hump my leg I would gently push it away.
I never heard you say, that's my man, go find your own stray.

Baby Why?

When it lapped up your glass of Champagne, you laughed till you cried. when I lapped up my spelt Jack Daniels from the kitchen floor, if looks could have killed I would have surely died.

When it dragged its behind and stained the carpet, you laughed and put it outside, when I left the lid up you screamed and slammed the door.

When it chases the cat that's alright, when I look at the kittens, I get slapped and punched and shown to the door.

Baby why.

Baby, why can't you see that maybe there's some hound in me.
