Kannada poem by V. Pratibha
Translated by C.P. Ravikumar
Each time I enter this city
She appears to me
Like a chicken,
Attacked and abandoned
By an eagle.
There she lies,
Crippled, hapless, and hungry,
Her soft yellow feathers
Scattered amidst a scarlet mass
Of raw flesh.
I am in two minds.
Should I fry her wings
And turn her into my dinner?
Or lift her gently
And kiss her back to life?
