'Bapu' Poem by Pushpinder Kaur

'Bapu'

'Bapu'

Do we have courage enough to hope
That tomorrow, October 2,2016 all violence shall elope?
That Mankind shall see a day lived in harmony
Without the slightest trace of villainy?

Non- violence, Swaraj, Untouchability-
Were Bapu's messages in uniformity;
Tolerance, patience and forgiveness-
The virtues, that shall outlive forgetfulness;

Were the messages upheld by the Messiah
Who advocated love and compassion for the pariah;
Dawning the white charkha- spun dhoti, and the shawl,
The Mahatma braved every storm and brawl.

Shall the smiling, bespectacled visage of Bapu
Resonate in our ears tomorrow, October 2,2016 as बापू, बापू, बापू, ?
