Bargaining With God Poem by Roy Davenport

Bargaining With God

We've all been there......trying to bargain with God.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Today I tried to strike a bargain with God. But either he wasn’t listening or he was holding all the cards and had nothing to gain from such a bargain, after all he IS God.

I was desperate, as I guess we all get at times. I was in pain, not physical, but emotional and I simply wanted relief for me and a loved one. But I wonder if He was listening to my offer.

In the Bible Job’s faith was tested and in the end he was rewarded by God for his faith. I don’t even have that “mustard seed” of faith to move my feet let alone a mountain.

So, if you’re listening God, here’s my best offer. Take the only thing I really have to offer…me. But in return I want happiness for my loved one. That’s a heck of a bargain if I do say so myself.

So, what do we do to seal this bargain? Do I need to sign a sacred covenant in blood? If so just have one of your Heavenly lawyers draw it up and I will sign and have it notorized.

Wait, do you even have lawyers up there? If not I am good with a burning bush or a bolt of lightning to seal the bargain. Just give me a sign that it’s a done deal.

I’ll need a couple of days to get things in order down here so if we could make this bargain go into effect on Monday I would really appreciate it. After all, Mondays pretty much suck anyway.
