Battle Cry Hymn Poem by Audrey Loveland

Battle Cry Hymn

Rating: 3.5

When winter fell across the plain.
And silence stalked the midnight air.
The chilled wind shook the crop and grain.
The Dogwood trees were bare.

A dancing wave of firelight,
Hovered across the starless sky.
A rumble shook the ground with might.
And broke through with a cry.

A gallop by the hundreds strode.
Throughout the distant land.
And there through plight of Christmas snow,
rode men with might at hand.

The horses struck their hooves with force.
They sniffed the frosted air.
Dressed in armor was each horse.
Snowflakes in their hair.

The hours ticked beneath the moon.
The men rode through the night.
Dressed for battle, death nears soon.
Whole with heart and fight.

Cavalry rode to strike the dawn.
With crimson gold and streamers bright.
Flames a flare they galloped on,
into the murky seas of night.
