Be Human To Humans First Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Be Human To Humans First

Rating: 5.0

Take not time to love the animals
let them be loved by their own,
let them be ferociously fighting
or lovingly sniffing at each other,
for they are their own kind.
Take not time to cage the birds
let them fly in the freedom of their own
let them build their own nests
and breed new birds
for they are happy among their own.
Take not the time to grow plants in your garden
let them grow in the wilderness
of the forests and the jungles,
let them grow by the walls and fences
they have to grow and live
as the greenery is their bliss.
No four legged animals
be it a dog or a cat
will take you to their home
and rear you or feed you.
No bird will bring food with its beak
and drop it in your mouth.
No plant will want you
to break or burn its branches
nor offer you fruits and vegetables
if you are unkindly to it.
O’ human being,
if you have a love to share
if you want someone to care
and be your friend,
be kindly to your own breed,
your own race,
for out there in this world
so many so lonely,
so much needing love
that they fail to bark and tell
or to fly and find a friend
and even if they have flowers in their hands
they have none to give them to.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The freedom we need, animals, birds and plants also should be given their own freedom. Just because they cannot express it, they should not be taken for granted. It is far more appropriate and rewarding to share friendship by human beings with one and another.
