Because Of War Poem by Silence Dogood

Because Of War

Rating: 5.0

You want a story
well, heres one now
About a beautiful girl.
Who stood straight and proud.

Her Fiancé went off to war.
And sent her letters everday.
365 letters; By the end of the year.
That was all that would remain.

He died a war hero.
Saved millions of lives.
He fought for his country.
And never said goodbye.

When she was told of his fate.
She just nodded her head.
She never shed a single tear.
For her true love dead.

Went she went to the funeral.
And heard the preacher say.
' Lift his soul to God'
'And carry his spirit away'

She let a few tears fall.
And her world crashed down.
Her once perfect smile.
Changed to a frown.

She fell to her knees.
And asked God Why?
She asked for his safety.
But still he died.

The American flag was hauled up the pole.
As the army put a fist to their breast.
Promsising never to forget this man.
Who layed his head to rest.

She rose to her feet.
Shaking leaves from her dress.
She wiped away the tears.
Said Lest we forget.

She stood so straight.
And oh so proud.
She saluted the men.
Who let her Fiancé down.

She buried the pain deep within.
Right down to the core.
For the man she wouldnt marry.
Who had died because of war.

You want a story.
Well heres one now.
About a beautiful girl.
Who stood straight and proud.
