Been There, Done That. Poem by Vidhi Jain

Been There, Done That.

I’ve been there before,
Seen the exact same sunset.
The detested dusk.
One of a kind.
The one I hate the most.
I promise myself, I swear, I won’t do it again.
I swear I won’t traverse the same path,
However flowery it might look.
I know what happens as its narrow path winds.
How dark it gets, how lonely, its such a fright.
How I say, “sheesh”, I did it again
How I get out of my mind.

Empty promises, faraway dreams.
All these seduce me.
Then I’m pushed, just a wee bit more.
And there I am again: at the same show.
Know the lines, the exits, the entries and the cues.
Yet I mess up.
Mess up again;
To start the saga anew.
