Before It Began
My mind is filled with thoughts
Of funny things you said
And all those conversations
That seemed to have no end
It started just by chance
Yet suddenly we'd connect
So oftentimes as is the case
Arriving when you least expect
And then there's much excitement
And passion, sparks and joy
And thoughts of wild and crazy things
To do when we're alone
Unexpectedly along the way
The feelings get much stronger
And therein lies the danger
That often puts us under
For once 'those' words are uttered
The situation changes
And if it feels too serious
Joy turns into a scare
The pain is all too obvious
As we start to drift apart
Knowing I am just a fool
Who let you in my heart
You once had felt the very same
And made it oh so clear
Yet changed your tune so quickly
As I pulled you near
So what is really left to say
Other than goodbye
And wipe away your memory
From my tired eyes
Take off and live your solo life
I cannot make you stay
A part of you will be in me
Until my dying day
I will truly miss this
What really had never begun
My heart is aching for the love
From you that did not come.
