Being There Poem by Shel Don

Being There

An assurance holds no value in any way,
If you don't mean what you say.
Be sure when you assure,
Or just back out if you have a doubt.
Like a looser you may feel,
But at least you won't hurt anyone by being real.
Don't hang someone in the air,
By saying something like you will be there.
It makes no sense then if you ain't there,
In their moment of despair.
If you do take up the challenge then be there at least when your needed the most,
But never brag or boast.
Bringing a smile on the face of someone does not cost you a thing,
But your value increases to more than that of a king.
Dare to care and be there,
Or just back out at the very moment of doubt.
