Beneath The Surface Poem by Imaanah Saleem

Beneath The Surface

It's a normal day of sunshine,

Though there's a darkness aligning the sun,

I walk down the street where others glow,

And see that darkness in everyone,

It's like a beautiful song,

Full of nothing but sin,

No one sees a reason to fight,

Their own ills within,

If we're all rocking and rolling,

Bobbing our heads to the beat,

Of all these unrighteous temptations,

Of them we are bound to be,

I see an entire world of children,

Like beautiful flowers in a garden,

Swaying absent mindedly in the breeze,

Unaware that they are starving,

Nutrients from the earth,

Are slowly being drained,

People remedy their thirst,

By drinking all the wrong things.
