Beneath The Surface Poem by Ash Lynn

Beneath The Surface

On the outside I look normal
I smile everyday
I even laugh occasionally
Crazy you might say

But beneath the surface
there's much more than what you see
I'm screaming to be noticed
to see the real me

I may smile everyday
But I also shed many tears
Everyday is a struggle
Sometimes I just want to leave

But your too busy getting angry
yelling and punishing me
That you never once have noticed
how miserable you make me

You caught me once before
you saw the scars on my wrist
You freaked when you saw them
but I told you that I fell

Now I'm happy you believed me
for there is no way to explain
But I just wish that you would notice
that I live in pain each day

Every night I lay down
and wish upon a star
That maybe this is just a nightmare
to be over in the morn

Appearance can be tricky
for it has no real meaning
If you get below the surface
maybe you can reveal it
