Big Mama Poem by Monica Lanier

Big Mama

Big mama sings out loud and out of tune.
"Has anyone seen my walking shoes."
Them shoes have been with me when I had nothing to eat.
No roof over my head my home was on the streets.
Them shoes helped me when life was unkind.
Kept me going when I almost lost my mind.
Them shoes are a reminder of where I have been.
So I look at each day as a beginning and not the end.
Them shoes will carry me to a day I will see.
Better places, better things, and better opportunities
Big mama sings out loud and out of tune
"Has anybody seen my walking shoes."

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One day i seen a homeless lady sitting on the bench at the bus stop and she was wrapping rubberbands around the top of her shoes. My heart almost burst into a million pieces. Situations like this always lead you into doing the right thing yet it keeps you with a prayerful song hoping and wishing that all pain in this world was gone.
