Birds And Citadels Poem by Katherine H. Belle

Birds And Citadels

Rating: 4.3

Your words taste familiar
Like some forgotten tongue
Tracing the roof of my mouth
Dancing on the back of my teeth
And escaping past my parched
And parted lips

They fill me so, these words
Like a citadel,
My mouth
Large and welcoming
Amplifying every syllable
That comes within it's reach

But should I heed the warning
That the alarms make sound to
In the depths of my soul
When you are near?
Or do I venture on

And like a bird in flight
In search of food
Dive deep and narrow
Into your outstretched earth
And rip into your being
To pull out that which would sustain me?
