POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The blue wall of silence
among police
is a culture which countenances
'hear no evil, speak no evil,
see no evil' in regards to fellow
officers.

The wall of silence pertains to
unnecessary force, beatings, shootings.
corruption. racism. sex. or other
in police or prison guards.

Police are in a position
especially at night
and in contact with prostitutes,
to threaten with jail
or bargain for sexual favors
in return for release.
Often their arrestees are
handcuffed and unarmed.
Police (and even nonpolice
dressed in police uniforms)
stop people for actual
or alleged traffic offenses.

The Associated Press did a year long study of 1000 police fired for sexual misconduct. Many more remain on police forces and as prison guards.
