Body of evidence

I cock a deaf ear
I turn a blind eye
My life is a cliche
of medical sighs
I don't drag my feet
but I'll not shake a leg
though I may shake my fist
if the need should arise

I keep a cool head
in keeping abreast of things
though sometimes tongue-tied and easily led
Selfish pursuit vies with grandchildren pestering
With heart on my sleeve
I can only see red

I still have a penchant
for cold-shouldered pretence
Giving the elbow
to limp-wristed fools
Sticking my neck out for all the wrong reasons
Sooner be bending than breaking the rules

I still toe the line
while putting my foot in it
this body of evidence allows me to plan,
while turning the other - by now - rosy cheek.
a leg of my journey
with you close at hand
