Strength flooded into me
Adrenaline flowed through my veins
My legs moved of their own accord
I broke free of the anchor keeping me bound
I ran for miles upon miles
Tasting the polluted air
With each leap and bound
I cover new, unseen ground
This vigour came without explanation
I didn't stop and question it
Speeding up even further, I look to the end
Of the new path I set myself upon
All too soon the path ends
I've reached a dead end
The energy leaves my body
As the rumbling approaches
I look back for the first time
And understanding dawns upon me
The ground has turned black
The crevice approaches
I steel myself for my fate
I throw out my arms as the pit swallows me
This sense of familiarity welcomes me home
The dark embraces me once more
As I am pulled under, into those enervating arms
Into the place I've hated but always belonged
I finally remember, a wry smile appears on my lips
It was the dark I was running from all along
