Box Of Sky(For Lyn) Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Box Of Sky(For Lyn)

Rating: 2.5

New toy!

(forgotten now) .

The box it came in
filled with snow

in an early evening
backyard

offers now
a different delight

to his mind
this the most wonderful

present
of all

a box
of snow

as if a sky
grown heavy

had shed
itself

to be collected
in a battered box

a box
of sky

heavy and white and cold.

ENCOUNTER

This island
of leaf

floating downstream
this…way…that

captained by
some unknown insect

who stands
steadfast

unperturbed
by the waves

swamping his little craft

as I stand in his way
unexpected…giant like

who as I reach
to rescue him

flies off
with an annoyed buzz

for a second
(real close)

we see
eye to eye

then he’s gone
lost in a vast sky

I blinded by the blue
no longer able to see

it
in
it’s
immensity

see only sunlight
walking on water.

Oh, what gifts you give me...a box of snow and a box of sky...my cup flows over! Your gifts of words for me are beyond perfect, real treasures, just like a box of snow...something to be savored! Thank you, Love, for such a marvelous gift!
