Boy And Girl Poem by Jessica VanderZee

Boy And Girl

A young boy and girl
at the age of six
drawing in the sand
with a couple of sticks

She kisses his cheek
and he wipes it away
they run around giggling
on the warm summer day

Ten years down the road
they're walking in the sand
his face lights up
when she reaches for his hand

He wraps his arms around her
when the night gets cold
they wait for the sunset
as the sky turns to gold

Seven years later
she's smiling all in white
they're standing in a church
and everything is right

Some months later
there's a baby on the way
there's been some complications
and all they do is pray

The doctor comes in
and he hesitates to say
that the baby will be fine
but the mother can not stay

The man falls to his knees
as a tear rolls down his face
and he whispers up to God
'Please...let me take her place.'

She looks him in they eye
and says 'even though we'll be apart,
let my baby girl understand...
that I'm always in her heart.'
