Brahma: The Virata Purusha Poem by Sasanka Sekhar Panda

Brahma: The Virata Purusha

Before Time what was what Time
before Earth was what Earth
and before Breath
was what Breath.
See me O man!
It was the Time Infinite
in the space
it was the cosmos
containing the Earth
it was the soul amidst
trillions and trillion
of souls,
It was me that Brahma,
the Virata Purusha,
having trillion
eyes, trillion heads
and trillion hands
legs and torsos
I am that Virata Purusha*,
encompassing the ethereal world,
In me are the universe,
the sky
the seas and the oceans,
the sun, the moon and
the constellations of stars.
I created the first
primordial couple
in the primeval period.
I am the Infinity
I am the Omnipotent
I am the Omnipresent
I am the Omniscient
All in One.
Bow before me,
merge yourself in me,
you will get Moksa*.
There will be no rebirth.

* Virata Purusha: The Almighty in Vedic philosophy.
* Moksa: In the Hindu philosophy it means Salvation of a human being after death, free from rebirth.
