Breakfast Brilliance Poem by Daniel Y.

Breakfast Brilliance

Making breakfast in the morning
- waffles, cereal, toasted bread-
lightning strikes with inspiration,
run to write it out my head.

Where the paper? !
Where the pen? !
Fight to keep it
in my hand.

But when I’ve found
that blasted paper
mind is blank and
pen is dead.

The fire that caught
my kindling thoughts
had burned them up too quick.
Smoke and ashes, absent flame,
left and won’t be home again.
