Earth Rotates
Obscures Moon
Millions Plunged
Into Darkness
Dateline: Here
Time: Now
In a shocking display
Of untethered self-absorption
The entire earth rotated on its axis Thursday night
The moon crashed noiselessly into the great sea
Hills ringing the edge-of-the-continent city of Santa Barbara
Obscured the actual moment of impact
Similar reports are coming in from cities and seaside communities up and down the west coast of the United States of America

Witnesses describe the last moments as the moon disappeared, possibly forever, in highly personal reflections:

It happened in slow motion...
