By Your Side Poem by Joe Shaw

You may admire the boy everyone admires,
I see your dreams and hopes shine like fires,
I'm the one you turn too when you're feeling you have to hide,
I've always been the one to be by your side.

To you he's a statue crafted by the gods,
When you need advice I'm always the one that nods,
To you his eyes are deep pools stretching wide,
Although I may not agree I'm always by your side.

You put all your love and feelings into this boy,
But like a puppet master he controls your heart like a toy,
I know you won't be defeated as you've tried and tried,
But when you fall I will be here by your side.

To you he is perfect and the boy of your dreams,
To me I know that really his feelings aren't what they seem,
When you one day realise this and your emotions collide,
You need to know that every step of the way I'm here by your side.

I don't have the confidence to say but I know I can't deny,
That it's YOU I love and it makes me want to yell to the sky,
But I stand here watching you love soaked up in his pride,
And I know that in the background I'll be forever by your side.

Maybe one day we'll be the couple walking across the beach at night,
Maybe one day like you do mine I'll make your feelings shine bright,
But until that day arrives, and until my final tear has cried,
You won't see me anywhere else but by your side.
