Caitlin Poem by Tracy Craighead

Caitlin

Caitlin

I was in pain, confusion and fear
Lost and scared, adrift, unclear
until all at once, you were here
I wasn't found in you
That was never your job
But I was given a gift

a love I've never known
And can never explain
I knew at once, my child,
That ' light ' should be your name.
Nothing existed before or behind
It was only you that could open my mind.
It was for that moment that I was born

You were small, so bright and deep
Your smile envelops and covers me
So powerful, yet So sweet.
A ball of fire, free and strong
a breeze of peace, and a lovely song

You are a part of me, as I am in you
With Moments of doubt, insecurities
I am protective and proud,
Transformed and anew

I had nothing to give you,
No lessons to teach
Just a love of words
And the power to speak

To show you music and movies
Musicals on repeat
With lessons of irony
Metaphors and symbolism
Wisdom you can keep

It's never enough
Nothing ever will be
But it's what I have to give
And it is yours to keep

I see you now as full of grace
And a force of nature
With a voice that transcends
All of time and space

My love, my child, my heart
My gift, my dream, my blessing
My daughter, my hope,
My everything
My friend
