Calabar Lion Poem by Tyrone Gayle

Calabar Lion

Calabar High School is one of the best, in the Land of Wood and Water,
For 5 years I was in its pride like a cub, it is more than my alma mater,
From there I chose to live a life of purpose which equates to a glad man,
So 'C-Bar! C-Bar! C-Bar! ', I shout it with great delight like a mad man.

Believe me, black is my favorite shade and green is my favorite color,
Every time I see them I am ignited to do something great every hour,
Because it is just who I am now, a lion hunting after greatness,
With my heart beating to our motto, 'The Utmost For The Highest.'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A poem that expresses my love and appreciation for my former high school at 61 Red Hills Road, Kingston 20 in Jamaica. The lion is our mascot and green and black are our school colors. The word 'Calabar' came from a seaport in Nigeria in the early 20th century. It has been in existence since 1912 and I graduated in 2012 apart of the centennial celebrations. I am forever inspired by this great school.

Hmm...seeing as I had the worst high school experience ever even though it was many many moons ago, it is nice to hear of one who is proud of their alma mater and enjoyed their experience enough to want to continue their education and make something of themselves. You truly are an inspiration.
