cankered heart

hearts smile-
hearts denial-
when you feel your heart will surely die-
when it heals-
hearts that kneel-
hearts that are bad-
the hearts you never wish you had-
hearts that do handstands-
hearts that grandstand-
hearts that shatter-
when your heart is flattered-
hearts that skip a beat-
when hearts outlook seems bleak -
hearts that have been abandoned-
beaten heart-cankered heart-
picked apart

poet Robert Browning

After
by Robert Browning

Take the cloak from his face, and at first
Let the corpse do its worst!

How he lies in his rights of a man!
Death has done all death can.
