Captain Poem by Purity Chapel

Captain

We amounted the seas, my Captain and I
With the winds a delicate temper.
They caressed my flushed cheeks- a kindred spirit,
But the Captain I could neither see nor hinder-
He, bright as the stars, a precious gem
Sailing to the distant horizon, my golden gift.
The Captain was to guide me there, and I, wait.
I ignored Him-
The seas shifted.

Each boat contrasts in make and mine was sturdy,
But without the Captain I was Fate's squirming bait-
Her cold gleam and thunderous skies whirled
My spirit wailed, 'It is too late! '
I seized the wheel, but alas! T'was stronger than I.
I fell to the floor and implored, helpless,
'Where is my Captain? ! He only, can steer! '
The seas silenced-
the skies cloudless.

He then, in pure light, appeared
To me with His gentle hand He beckoned
So forth I came, and at his feet sat
He turned and never left the Helm a second.
I kept always my eyes on Him fastened
The seas like a large exclusive throng whispered
Never roaring and surely never turning
Forever still-
a stifled fervor.
