Carry The Fire (Bernadette Mayer,1945-2022) Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

Carry The Fire (Bernadette Mayer,1945-2022)

Rating: 5.0

Bernadette, I am with you in spirit
Among the Catholic Bourgeoise of a small town
I was the mad poet of my generation
Being told that being poet wasn't an ideal job
But I was like you
Stubborn in my ideas, I knew I had chosen right
I could never be happy as a store manager
I was too much of a bohemian to lead
My head was in the clouds of grandeur
Becoming know not only for poetry, for lifestyle also
Let yr soul consume my mind
As I will fight for yr school of beliefs
Bernadette, I will carry the fire
