Chasm Poem by sydney conteh

Chasm

If I can have a superpower
I will have super strength
Why, because
Body moves forwards
While the mind is having a gated protest
Body speaks words
That the mind is foreign to
My body learned the words from others
Like an instructional guide on how to operate through life

Body sleeps
While the mind is racing with thoughts
Body is awake
While the mind is in suppressed
My mind and body
Are a bad divorced couple
Who don't see they are the missing piece in their life
Keeping each other at arms distance
Like a hedgehog
Who craves warmth on a cold winter's day
But is scared to get close
As spindles hurt
That kind of pain doesn't go away quickly

If I can have a superpower
I will have super strength
So I can pull back
The Chasm between
My mind
And my body
Maybe then
I will be
Considered whole
