Shosholoza Poem by sydney conteh

Shosholoza

Shosholoza Shosholoza ku lazontaba
Stimela sipum'e South Africa
Wen uyabaaleka
Ku lezontaba

Translation
Move fast, on those mountains
Train from South Africa
You are running away
on those mountains
Train from South Africa

This song once was a healing hand
A soft parental kiss
On the bodies of black men
Who with bleeding hands
Struck rock, in hard labour

The black spirit has a way of making music
A remedy, and dance a healing elixir
With no drums, we use our heartbeat
With no drums, we use our feet
Defeat is a thought that never passes
our mind

Nowadays
Rap, the gospels, afrobeat, and reggae
Are our spiritual healers
So sing on
sing on
sing on
