Chess Maxim

Taking a move back to avert losing a piece
is as great an offence to whom it is done,
as taking one back to take one is
to whom that's done to.

Taking back is Taking back.
Recanting is Recanting.

I can't resist reading any poem I notice about chess. In tournament chess, there is no such thing as taking back a move. In fact, if you just touch a piece, you must move it. My friends and I always play touch-move even in casual games. It's good practice to make sure you never touch a piece until you are sure that's the piece you want to move and where you want to move it. I enjoyed the poem. Thanks.
