Childhood Lies Poem by Just Kay

Childhood Lies

Rating: 4.0

Mother always said she would never lie to me.

Well.

When the lights went out, and didnt come back on,
she said they were broken.

When we lost the car,
she said it was time for a new one.

When we had to leave the appartment,
she said she didnt like it.

When we had nothing to eat for dinner,
She said the trolls stole the food.

And the money too, I guess.

Too bad I knew everything.

I read the mail too.

She said I could be whatever I wanted
when I grew up.

Which we know is completly not true
the slightest bit.

Good thing I always wanted to be a teacher, huh.

Why do parents lie to their children?
They think they arent ready for the truth.

Well, if they arent ready,
They wont understand anyway.

And if they understand,
good for them.

They're SMART.

Maybe then they COULD acctually be
whatever they wanted to be when they grew up.

Don't lie to your children.
It fills them with hope.

Hope can only get you so far.
