Circumstantial Evidence Poem by G J Salgado

Circumstantial Evidence

I watch closely out the window
Wonder why my neighbor's suddenly a widow

Watching the house behind me across the street
In the middle of the night in the summer's heat

I can't help that I'm obsessed
No need to get upset
It's just a matter of circumstantial evidence

Why is she looking at me?
She's wondering what I've seen

She's looking me in the eye
I'm scared I don't want to die

What if I'm next?
What did I witness?

She's coming over here
I've got to get out of here

Here she comes
What will she say
Will anyone hear us
Make her go away

What am I going to do
Of all the things to put me through

I open the door we're looking face to face
I welcome her into my place

What was I thinking?
My heart is sinking

Why did I let her in?
It's the perfect crime again

Worst just went to really bad
I was shocked when she said

I can't help that I'm obsessed
No need to get upset
It's just a matter of circumstantial evidence
