Citizen Of The Universe Poem by Kevin Patrick

Citizen Of The Universe

My Nation transcends your geograthy
Im not captive to the pollution of patriotism
Or bound by provential trifles or legalities
Interfering from your philistines fetishism

Theres no flag to ensnare my constription
No anthem to lure me to Allegiance
The only boarder I see is at the worlds edge
And its a line to be smashed by pure reason

I am happy to sing songs of independence
Free of jingoistic pride and arrogance
And I welcome the strange and unknown
With curiosity, respect and intellegence

For I am A Citizen of the Universe

No country defines my physical boundry

Wherever I roam my feet make my home
Down metropolis spires or rural town shores
Laughing in Spanish while moaning in French
My spirit is Irish filled with ethopian courage

I will jog on the great wall, and roam Xingaging
Swim deep in the Caspian then pilliage to Mecca
Cross the Andes in May for the Amazon in June
And board a ship for Good Hope to reach up Gondershe

The only good soldier is an explorer

From the east to the west, my sun does not rest
Traveling by the heart with hope set in sail
For I am light in the cosmos dark tapestry
Unbound on the roads without borders assailed

As I am a citizen of the universe

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I remember someone saying they were a citizen of the universe and it made me think, what a wonderful world it would be if we stopped clinging to the pieces of dirt that we were born on, give up the silly devotion to flags and songs and make this world a real global frontier. The fear that I have now is that we are returning to the early 20th century divisions that resulted in world war one, the blind patriotism and jingoism that resulted in senseless wars and death. If we just remember that this is one planet with one people we can live in peace.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

With Elie Wiesel's death, we are reminded that there are some citizens of the world, who lived to teach all, lessons of a message of love, human dignity, and atonement. We are reminded everyday of how small our world is becoming. Your concept is valid both for the brotherhood of man and for practicalities sake! Will put you on my favorites list so I can read more!
