Claire Poem by Mark Sellen

Claire

Overwhelmed by your innocence,
Your beauty, your grace,
My eyes, they lit up,
My heart began a faster pace!

Shy as you were
Made me more nervous still,
Butterflies in my stomach,
Meant I could hardly eat my meal.

I carefully scanned your features,
Though no harshness could I trace,
And again my heart was off,
At a faster pace!

Your Hair was fair and long,
And flowed gently down your back,
I was filled with awe,
Was there nothing that you lacked?

I gently clasped your hand,
And immediately you went red,
Was it because I’d touched you,
Or that we were sitting on my bed?

I dared not look into your eyes,
In case I should offend,
But I knew at an instant
I could call you friend.

You sat upon my motor bike,
Your arms tightly ‘bout my waist,
I heard the starter’s gun,
And my heart again, it raced!

Attired as I was,
Meant we could not kiss,
Though again, you put your arms around me,
And that fulfilled a wish.

I left you on the doorstep,
Rode off into the night,
And despite the freezing cold,
My heart it felt alight!

Burning with strange emotions,
Better left untold,
Sauf the strength of my feelings,
And the warmth of your hold
