Close Behind Poem by David Blake

Close Behind

Down by an unnamed sea, that is
where she often went to lay. In the
midday sun her beauty and youth
showed brighter than the sun.
Cleaned by the summer’s breeze,
I can still remember the way she
would smile. The waves, gulls, and
the promise of the salty night,
insane how we loved until the early
morning light. Kisses so soft and
warm like the san beneath my feet,
her eyes filled with wonder and a
spirit that I should have know I could
never tame. I loved her all the while,
and in the brief moments when she
would sleep I dreamed that this
vision would never end. In the
passing of the early morning light
she would again to that unnamed
place accent, leaving me alone
again with only the dream that I had
hoped would never end.
