Steve Birkhauser
Come, My Friend
Come, my friend,
It is not your time.
No peace in Death is possible
Until you have made your peace with Life
Yes, I, too, have heard the voices.
They promise you silence and rest,
An end to all your struggles,
And a final release from the pain.
You must not listen to those voices.
All that they tell you are lies.
There is no real peace in the darkness.
Only an eternity of loneliness and regret.
Leave your despair behind you
And walk with me back to the light,
Into the beautiful day
Where we both belong
